About Lauren
I remember the exact moment…
… when it happened, when I fell head over heels in love with music. I’d obviously heard tons and tons of music before but it was always a background thing for me and I hardly ever payed attention to it. But then as a kid there was this movie that had just come out that I was excited to watch – P.J Hogan’s Peter Pan that had been released in 2003. While watching it a song played when Wendy flew out of her window for the first time – Clocks from Coldplay – and I suddenly experienced a strange sensation that I had never experienced before. My heart started to race, and I became so overwhelmed with emotion and this extraordinary sense of excitement and awe from what I was listening to; and I just knew. From here on out, music would never be the same again for me. It became everything for me in an instant and I knew that I was hooked for life.
And so my musical journey began. I started with Vocal and Piano Lessons at the age of 7, at Witbank arts campus where I spent a lot of time doing classical training. I was apart of countless Art’s Festivals and Talent for Africa’s and lots of other competitions in-between, where I received mainly Gold and Diploma Certificates. I then decided that I wanted to take a step a further with my skill and ability and I started Guitar lessons at the age of 12 at Eden Music Studios. I also continued piano and vocal lessons here where my focus shifted from classical training to Ear training and learning how to play by ear. This is where my unique sound as a musician truly started to develop. I had an incredible teacher that invested in me and built me up and built up my confidence. I wouldn’t be where I am without her as my teacher and mentor!
After a few years, my teacher relocated and I then moved to Masson Music where I spent the majority of my highschool career training at. I was exposed to frequently playing with other musicians and in many different band settings.
This accelerated my growth even more. From the age of 16 I’ve had opportunities to record a number of my own songs in studio and be apart of multiple other studio projects.
After I matriculated I started working for Masson Music as a music teacher; teaching Piano, Guitar and Vocals. I contributed toward a very large chunk of the music schools curriculum and was soon promoted to being the teachers manager and was responsible for overseeing the teachers under me. I decided to once again further my skill set and I learnt how to play the drums and expanded my horizons with the bass and electric guitar as well. After 6 awesome years at the company I ended my time there with the largest percentage of students at the school, and opened my own company in Kempton park, Johannesburg.
Today, I am excited to share my passion and knowledge of music with others through my music school. My goal is to inspire and guide students to discover their own love of music and help them reach their full potential. I believe that music is a powerful tool for self-expression, creativity, and personal growth, and I am committed to creating a nurturing and supportive learning environment where students can thrive. Throughout my musical journey, I have had the privilege of learning from some incredible teachers and mentors who have challenged and inspired me to become the best musician and teacher I can be. Their guidance and support have been invaluable to me, and I strive to pay it forward by providing the same level of dedication and mentorship to my students.
I am excited to continue growing and learning alongside my students and to share the joy of music with as many people as possible.
